Fire damages South Point home
SOUTH POINT, Ohio -- A late morning fire killed four pets Tuesday morning in South Point, Ohio.
Lawrence County 911 received word of the fire at 11 a.m. Tuesday. It was located on Light Drive, also known as Township Road 353.
Fayette Township volunteer firefighter Matt Burks described the house as "a complete and total loss." He said nobody was home at the time, but two dogs and two cats did not survive.
Burks said the most significant damage was sustained to a front corner of the single-story house. Flames worked into the attic and quickly spread throughout the residence. Burks reported a partial roof collapse in the most damaged area.
Authorities had not determined a precise cause and origin as of Tuesday afternoon, he said.
Firefighters contained the flames to one residence, however one other home did receive minor heat damage, Burks said.
No injuries were reported.
The Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department led the response with assistance from volunteer firefighters in South Point, Chesapeake, Proctorville and Rome Township.
