Police still seeking answers in homicide
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Investigators are still looking for clues in last week's death of a Huntington woman whose body was found in rural Mason County.
A passerby found the body of Tonya Lynn Slaughter, 34, on Oct. 27, lying along Barton Chapel Road near Ashton and Apple Grove, W.Va. The rural road is about seven miles east of W.Va. 2.
Family members remembered Slaughter as a sweet girl who battled years of drug abuse. They believed the addiction may be linked to her death.
Authorities in Mason County said Friday the case remains under investigation. They refused to release any further information, including Slaughter's cause of death.
Anyone with information about Slaughter's death should call the Sheriff's Office at 304-675-3838.
Mason County Chief Deputy Jeff Fields has said detectives believe Slaughter died in Mason County hours before a passerby discovered her body. Authorities have declined comment when asked about possible drug involvement.
