Sexual assault reported at Marshall frat house

Apr. 25, 2013 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Little information was available Wednesday concerning a sexual assault investigation involving a fraternity house near Marshall University's campus, according to a safety alert sent out to students Wednesday afternoon.

The alert, which was sent out via email just after 3 p.m., said officers with the Huntington Police Department responded to the report of the sexual assault of a 19-year-old female student at the Alpha Tau Omega house located in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue.

The alert did not indicate what time officers were dispatched or when the assault was reported to have occurred.

According to the alert, police were interviewing a 21-year-old male student, who had been identified as the suspect in the case. No charges had been filed in the case as of Wednesday night.

The alert ended with a link to the Marshall Women's Center website, "for more information on women's assistance programs and keeping safe."

Investigators did not return calls for comment.
