November 06, 2009 @ 01:04 PM

WINFIELD, W.Va. — Two well-known high school coaches were involved in a serious vehicle accident Friday morning.

Putnam County 911 received word of the crash at 7:18 a.m. It occurred at the Happy Day Mobile Home Park southwest of Winfield, W.Va., on W.Va. 817, formerly known as U.S. 35.

The Sheriff’s Office identified those involved in the crash as David Bailey and Leon McCoy, both of Scott Depot, W.Va., along with Travis Boling of Nitro, W.Va.

Bailey and McCoy are teachers at Winfield High School. Bailey currently serves as the school’s track coach, while McCoy a former head football coach.

Both teachers were taken to Charleston Area Medical Center’s General Hospital. Officials listed both as being under evaluation at midday Friday. Friends had described their injuries to be minor and non-life threatening.

Boling, 30, was transported to CAMC’s Teays Valley Hospital. Officials listed him in stable condition at midday Friday.

Bailey and Boling were listed as drivers. The Sheriff’s Office said witnesses indicate Boling’s vehicle pulled into the path of Bailey’s. The teachers’ vehicle was traveling north toward Winfield.

The crash caused traffic delays on the heavily traveled roadway and reportedly caused some school buses to be delayed.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
