Hundreds of crows stop in W.Va. city on way south
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (AP) — Each evening at dusk, Bluefield becomes a scene reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds.”
Along with East River Mountain, Bluefield is a main migration corridor for birds heading south for the winter. It’s now home to hundreds of crows that flock across the sky at dusk.
Biologist Jeff Hajenga with the state Division of Natural Resources says the crows will hang around as long as food is available until the weather turns colder, and stays cold.
Hajenga says the DNR encourages people to contain their trash and keep lids on trash containers closed to discourage the crows from lingering.
