Folks line up early for free Rascal Flatts tickets

November 19, 2009 @ 10:55 AM

HUNTINGTON — For years, 23-year-old Kristen Lehman and her mother Tonya Lehman went to Rascal Flatts concerts together. Five years after her mother’s death from leukemia, the concert tradition continued, but with her grandmother.

“I’m standing in line for my granddaughter,” said Deanne Nolan. “Rascal Flatts was her mom’s favorite group, then they became Kristen’s.”

Many people began lining up outside the Keith-Albee Performing Arts Center as early as 4:30 a.m. Thursday for free tickets to Saturday’s 30-minute Rascal Flatts concert at the Keith-Albee. People from all over the Tri-State were lined up down to 9th Street long before the 500 tickets were scheduled to be given away at noon.

Nolan, bundled up and with a chair, took her place in line on 4th Avenue around 9:30 a.m Thursday. She said her daughter and granddaughter, both of Ashland, Ky., always went to concerts together, and Nolan wanted to stand in line in memory of her daughter.

The super country group Rascal Flatts will perform the free concert Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Keith-Albee as part of a food festival hosted by the “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” TV show. The platinum-selling band will offer the acoustic concert at 2:30 p.m. Saturday during Jamie Oliver’s Food Festival. The festival, which will feature many food vendors from across the area, will be filmed for the ABC reality series in production in Huntington. The TV show is scheduled to be aired in early 2010. Remaining tickets will be given away during the food festival, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on 3rd Avenue, in front of Pullman Square.
