W.Va. volunteer firefighter faces arson charge

BELLEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) — A volunteer firefighter faces an arson charge for allegedly setting a brush fire in Wood County.

Wood County sheriff’s Lt. Shawn Graham says 19-year-old David Keith Richards of Murraysville is accused of setting a pile of trash on fire in a field near Belleville. The fire spread several feed.
Richards is a member of the Pond Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

Graham says Richards confessed to authorities that he set the Tuesday fire to give the fire department something to do.

Richards was charged Thursday with arson. He remains free on $25,000 bond.

There was no telephone listing for David Richards. A call to a Ravenswood listing for D. Richards rang unanswered Friday morning.
