Auditions set for Young People's Concert

HUNTINGTON — The Woman's Club of Huntington, in cooperation with Marshall University and the Cabell County Board of Education, is sponsoring concerto auditions for West Virginia and Tri-State students in grades 7 through 12.

The auditions will take place at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 10, 2010, in Smith Music Hall, on the Marshall campus.

Applications can be obtained from Patricia Walker, 131 Wood Lomond Way, Huntington, WV 25705, by calling 304-736-4004, or by e-mailing pkwalker5@msn.com. Applications must be received by Jan. 4, 2010, along with a $20 application fee.

A memorized instrumental or vocal composition of 12 minutes or less with orchestral parts available is required.

The winner will receive $150 and get to perform with the Marshall University Symphony in the 49th Young People's Concert. The concert is for all Cabell County fifth grade students during Music In Our Schools Month. The concert will take place at 10 a.m. March 2, 2010, at the historic Keith Albee Performing Arts Center. The Family Concert will take place at 7 p.m. that same evening at Marshall's Smith Music Hall.
