Beech Fork State Park offers several activities each week

BARBOURSVILLE -- Beech Fork State Park, the state's largest campground, is filled with activities each week.

Here's a look at a few of the events at the park, located at 5601 Long Branch Road, Barboursville.

The park boasts a swimming pool, open daily, as well as fishing, hiking, boat rentals (pedal boats, canoes, kayaks and johnboats), basketball, horseshoes, tennis, picnic areas, bicycling and mountain biking. Equipment rental for all the games.

Tuesday, June 15

2:30 p.m. Stream Stomp. Meet at Moxley Branch bathhouse near campsite 51 and wade up a stream. Along the way examine the stream and identify the critters that live there. Wear comfortable shoes that can get wet and bring a water bottle. Expect to be out about 1 hour.

5 p.m. -- Evening Walk along Fitness Trail that runs along Beech Fork Creek. Meet outside of the Camper's Corner and be sure to bring a water bottle. Expect to be out about 1 hour.

Wednesday, June 16

Noon to 5 p.m. -- Newsong Church Vacation Bible School for children ages 4-12 at the Park Headquarters Activities Room. All are welcome to attend, contact Ron or Amy Maynard 304-972-6091 or 304-736-2726 for more details.

5 to 6 p.m. -- Volleyball. See Ryan, the Boat Dock Attendant, at the Boat Launch area.

Thursday, June 17

5 to 6 p.m. -- Frisbee. See Ryan, the Boat Dock Attendant, at the Boat Launch area.

Friday, June 18

3 p.m. -- Father's Day Nature Craft. Come to the Campfire Circle to make an animal card for Father's Day.

6 p.m. -- Lost Lady Bug Project. Meet at the Camper's Corner to look for ladybugs on the Road to Nowhere and send pictures of them for scientists to use. The project will be helping scientists at Cornell University see what ladybugs are still out there and how many are around by taking photos of what is found.

8 p.m. -- Hayrides For Kids. Meet at the Old Orchard Bathhouse parking lot for a fun ride around Beech Fork! This activity is provided by Good Samaritan Church as is open to all campers.

Saturday, June 19

7 a.m. -- Dawn Devotional with folks from the Good Samaritan Church at Moxley Branch Campsite 32

8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. -- Kids Fishing Tournament Registration

9 to 10 a.m. -- Kids Fishing Tournament. Come to tent beside Moxley Branch Bridge. Trophies and Awards to Follow. Open to all campers up to 15 years old. Children should be accompanied by an adult.

11 a.m. -- Water Activities/Tug of War. Come to Moxley Branch Campsite 32 for some fun games for kids and adults.

3:30 to 4 p.m. Cornhole Tournament registration.

4 p.m. -- Cornhole Tournament. Come to Moxley Branch Campsite 32 to try your hand at this popular game

7 p.m. -- Musical Performer, Steve Free. Meet at the Park Headquarters Activities Room of the to listen to an award winning Southern Ohio singer/song writer/recording artist who delivers Native American and Appalachian music by combining thought provoking lyrics and fun-filled audience participation.

7:30 to 9 p.m. -- Hayrides For Kids. Meet at Old Orchard Bathhouse parking lot for a fun ride around Beech Fork.

7:30 to 9 p.m. -- Scavenger Hunt. Come to Moxley Branch Campsite 32 for a fun scavenger hunt.

Sunday, June 20

7 a.m. -- Dawn Devotional with folks from the Good Samaritan Church at Moxley Branch Campsite 32

9 to 10 a.m. -- Church Service at Moxley Branch Campsite 32. All are welcome.

2 p.m. -- Father's Day/ West Virginia Day Themed Photo Scavenger Hunt. Use your own digital camera or camera phone to take photos of items on the list. You have 1.5 hours to complete the list as best as you can Meet outside the Camper's Corner.

5 p.m. -- Evening Hike on Overlook Trail. Meet at the Campfire Circle (look for Campfire Ring on your park map) and be sure to bring a water bottle. Expect to be out about 1.5 hour. This trail is steep and strenuous in some places but has great sights to see.
