W.Va. woman admits animal cruelty

Mar. 29, 2013 @ 07:34 AM

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A Clarksburg woman has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty for keeping 21 dogs and puppies in filthy conditions.

The Exponent Telegram reports that 66-year-old Nancy Starkey entered the plea on Thursday.  Harrison County Sheriff’s Lt. G.S. Scolapio said the majority of the dogs were schnauzers, including about 7-9 puppies.

He said officials were alerted to the mess when a motorist stopped by the residence after one or two dogs had escaped. Some dogs required veterinarian care.
