Winterplace extending its season through Wednesday, April 3

Mar. 31, 2013 @ 11:04 AM

GHENT,W.Va. — West Virginia’s ski season just keeps slip sliding further into Spring.

Winterplace, the closest Mountain State ski resort to Huntington, just announced that they now be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Wednesday, April 3 and maybe longer.

The resort, located about 2 1/2 hours from Huntington in Ghent, W.Va., has had 18 inches of new natural snow over the past week, and so will extend their season for snow skiing, snowboarding and tubing.

While Oglebay and Canaan Valley were already closed for the season, the family-owned Timberline Four Seasons Resort had its last day on Sunday.

Over in Pocahontas County, Snowshoe Mountain, which has gotten more than four feet of new snow this month, and two feet added just this week,  will now keep the mountain open through Saturday, April 7. The resort was originally set to close this Sunday, March 31, but officials feel it would be ridiculous to turn their backs on the best late-season snow conditions in years.

Both open resorts have special deals on lift tickets and rentals.
