August 22, 2010 @ 10:45 AM

HUNTINGTON -- A free banquet for World War II veterans is planned for 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Renaissance Center Auditorium, 900 8th St.

The event is sponsored by the Veterans Committee for Civic Improvement of Huntington, an organization comprised of 14 veterans groups in the Tri-State, and Tri-State Chapter #949 of the Vietnam Veterans of America. It will also include a performance by the Victory Belles at 8 p.m. The group performs in the vein of The Andrews Sisters and offers a USO-type show.

The dinner will also feature a speech by Medal of Honor recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams.

The event coincides with 65th anniversary of the Japanese surrender, known as the official end of World War II.

Reservations are required for the show, which is free for World War II veterans and one guest. The veterans will be seated first. To make a reservation, call Ron Wroblewski at 304-453-4712 or 740-446-1795 or Joe Wilson at 304-429-7294 or 304-638-4192. Requests can also be mailed to P.O. Box 734, Ceredo, WV 25507-0734.
