Troopers investigate child’s death

Jan. 16, 2013 @ 11:03 AM

BRANCHLAND — West Virginia State Police are investigating as to how a kitchen stove fell onto a 2-year-old boy leading to his death.

Authorities found the child Monday morning at house along Pettie Coat Junction Road, a rural route off W.Va. 10 and the Trace Fork of Four Mile Creek Road in Branchland.

State Police Sgt. J.L. Joyce said investigators are waiting for a report from the state Medical Examiner’s Office before criminal charges are filed. That will determine a cause of death and assist troopers in selecting the appropriate charge.

Joyce described the appliance as typical kitchen stove. Authorities found it toppled over on the child. His body was found underneath.

The child’s name has not been released.
