Black ice blamed for fatal accident in Wayne County
LAVALETTE -- A Lavalette woman died in a single-vehicle accident on Beech Fork Road late Friday night.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Marife Travis, 32, of Lavalette, was traveling east on Beech Fork Road in a 2001 model Chevrolet Cavalier at about 11:15 p.m. when she encountered black ice and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle slid off the roadway and entered the adjacent stream where it floated a short distance and sank.
Rescue efforts were hindered by the location and the high water from the recent weather experienced.
Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this crash.
