Suspended high school student arrested

Feb. 08, 2013 @ 12:14 PM

HUNTINGTON — A suspended student arrested for briefly trespassing on the premises of Huntington High School on Thursday was discovered to be in possession of a small caliber firearm at the time he was arrested miles away from the school.

According to a press release issued by Cabell County Schools, the student, whose name was not released, was arrested elsewhere in the community for trespassing at the school. Law enforcement officials had “probable cause to believe that the student was in possession of a small caliber firearm at the time he was trespassing on school property,” the release said. Officers said they do not believe there was a direct threat to the school itself and the suspended student is now incarcerated at a state facility, the press release stated.

Jedd Flowers, director of communications for Cabell County Schools, reiterated that the safety of their students is of utmost importance and credited the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and Huntington Police Department for their response and investigation.
