Southwestern Community Action Council the Chamber’s Business of the Week
HUNTINGTON — Southwestern Community Action Council is the Huntington Regional Chamber of Commerce Business of the Week for the week of Aug. 3, 2009.
Southwestern Community Action Council Inc. was incorporated as a private, non-profit, 501 c3 entity in 1967 to serve the low-income citizens of Cabell, Lincoln, Mason, and Wayne Counties in West Virginia. Today, Southwestern provides services to 10 counties in West Virginia and Kentucky.
The Southwestern Community Action Council is managed by a Board of Directors, one-third of whom came from the public, private and low-income sectors respectively. Its primary mission is to provide a continuum of services that assist in empowering individuals and families in making positive life choices, which promote personal growth and self-sufficiency.
Southwestern strives to develop anti-poverty programs in its service delivery area and to encourage maximum possible participation in the targeted population within that area.
Southwestern offers a diverse range of programs and services including: Mature Worker Program; Community Services Block Grant; Region 2 Workforce Investment Board Supportive Services Program; Early Head Start; Mason County Homeless Shelter; Case Management/Homemaker Agency Program; Weatherization; Family Development Program; and 211.
