Ceredo woman charged with '11 murder

Nov. 14, 2012 @ 12:00 AM

WAYNE -- A Ceredo woman has been charged with murder in connection with a domestic dispute from a year ago.

The indictment, returned this month, implicates Sara R. Worstell, 21. A summons has been issued for her appearance at an arraignment next week in Wayne Circuit Court.

Prosecutor Tom Plymale said the indictment stems from the Nov. 27, 2011, death of Michael Meachem, 22. A medical examiner determined the victim died from positional asphyxiation.

"Based upon the statements, the position that he was held in eventually caused him to suffer oxygen deprivation," Plymale said.

The incident occurred at the couple's residence in the first block of Greenwood Drive in Ceredo. Plymale said Worstell was the leaseholder, but she had been staying there with Meachem, her daughter and a friend of hers.

The prosecutor was unaware of any documented history of domestic violence between the two parties.

Meachem grew up in Proctorville, Ohio, as one of three siblings. He was employed at G.C. Services of Huntington at the time of his death.

The case has been assigned to Wayne Circuit Judge James H. Young Jr. It could go to trial in late February.

Prosecutors elected to directly present evidence in the case to a grand jury without magistrate court proceedings. An indictment is a formal accusation of guilt, and accused defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
