Healthy Choices Ky. to assist Boyd, Greenup
RUSSELL, Ky. -- Representatives from 26 area health, fitness and community organizations have joined together to form Healthy Choices Kentucky, a consortium formed as a response to eastern Kentucky's high obesity rates.
The mission of the collaboration is to improve the health of residents in Boyd and Greenup counties by halting the rise of the Body Mass Index average. Members of the organization include restaurants, athletic facilities, schools, grocery stores and civic groups as well as Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
As part of the announcement, the group's first public event, a free health symposium, was announced for Thursday, Jan. 24, at Bellefonte Pavilion, 2000 Ashland Drive, Russell, Ky. The event is open to the public and will feature speakers, demonstrations and other educational opportunities.
