Greenup abuse prevention initiative to launch Dec. 1

SOUTH SHORE, Ky. -- The Greenup County Drug Free Coalition will launch its first community substance abuse prevention initiative on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Coalition members and local youth will distribute yard signs with contact information for the Kentucky State Police for reporting suspected criminal and/or drug activity. Additionally, area businesses will be asked to display posters and distribute information to community members about the new KSP Text A Tip program, designed to allow texting of confidential tips about criminal activity from a cellphone.

Coalition members will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at South Shore Fire Department, 28 South Shore Drive, South Shore. Community members are welcome to join the effort. The group's next meeting is Jan. 10, 2013.

Portsmouth man arrested for burglary

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- An Ohio man has been arrested on two counts of burglary, according to the office of Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini.

Jason S. Frye, 31, of Pond Run Road, Stout, Ohio, was arrested in the case and lodged in the county jail. The sheriff's office received a call from a West Portsmouth man that his house had been broken into on Nov. 15 and several firearms and tools were reported stolen.

Detectives were able to recover several of the stolen guns in Ashland, according to a news release.
