Overworked women need to simplify life

Nov. 29, 2012 @ 11:40 PM

HUNTINGTON -- Tanya Abreu believes the best way to reach today's overworked, busy, stressed-out women is by keeping it simple. That's why the title of her talk, "Ten Powerful Words Guaranteed to Get You from Dull to Dazzling," cuts straight to the point.

"I believe that we all have too much on our to-do lists and too much in our heads so I like to keep my time with women simple and give them single words that pack a wallop of meaning," said Abreu, president of Spirit of Women, a coalition of hospitals and health care providers across the United States. "How do I get from 'worn out' to 'wow,' from 'dull' to 'dazzling?'

"There's not a single woman in 2012 who doesn't feel like she has an elephant on her chest," Abreu continued. "What you need to do is honor yourself and lighten up your life so you can be a light to others."

Abreu will present her motivational talk during Friday's Total Woman Girls' Night Out event sponsored by St. Mary's Medical Center. The event takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Mary's Conference Center.

The Total Woman program was launched by the medical center in May to help women connect with health services while empowering them to make good health care decisions. Friday's event will include shopping, prizes, free health screenings and more for Total Woman members. New members can join for free by calling 304-526-1271 or registering online at www.st-marys.org.

"Women make 85 percent of all the health care decisions for themselves and their families, and we decided since women are making these decisions, we needed to help them focus on their total health care from top to bottom," said Lisa Hastings, coordinator of Total Woman.
