Dec. 01, 2012 @ 11:35 PM

PEDRO, Ohio -- A man was airlifted to a local hospital Saturday evening after he was shot in an apparent hunting accident in Lawrence County, Ohio.

The incident was reported to Lawrence County 911 dispatchers at about 5:20 p.m. Early reports indicated a man called dispatchers saying he had been shot while hunting in a remote area close to Telegraph Hill Road near Pedro, Ohio. The road runs through the Wayne National Forest.

Emergency responders had a difficult time getting to the location, but at least one other person was on the scene with the victim, assisting him in controlling the bleeding from his wound according to dispatcher reports.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they took him to a location from which he was airlifted to an area hospital, but information concerning the man's condition or the severity of his injuries was not available Saturday night.

The incident is under investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office.
