HealthSouth celebrates expansion, renovation
HUNTINGTON -- Many people may have heard of HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Huntington, but they may not be familiar with its services, according to Michael Zuliani II, the hospital's CEO.
"I think we're one of this area's best-kept secrets," said Zuliani. "It's one of those things that you know is there, but you don't know what it is about until it affects you personally, until you need it. Of course, we don't wish that you'll need our services, but if you do, we are ready to take care of you."
The hospital, located along Country Club Drive in Huntington, was open to the public Thursday evening during an open house event to celebrate the completion of a 10-room expansion and renovations to the facility's physical therapy center, said Zuliani.
With the renovation, the hospital now is a 62-room facility, including a total of 16 private rooms, said Kim Cummings, marketing director and RN at the hospital.
Construction began in the spring of 2012, said Cummings.
"We are going to be able to better meet the needs of the community," Cummings said. "Before the construction, we were often at capacity with waiting lists to go along with that. Our level of care is more intensive than other facilities in the area can provide, and we are going to be able to provide more care with these new facilities."
The hospital offers comprehensive rehabilitation services that are designed to return patients of all ages to active and independent lives, said Cummings.
All of the hospital's patients are referred to them by medical staff at St. Mary's Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital, said Zuliani.
"We don't just walk into these hospitals looking for patients," he said. "There may be a patient who has suffered a stroke or had an amputation, and the staff at the hospitals will contact us for an evaluation when the patients are stable. They come here for more long-term rehabilitation care."
Zuliani said that the new expansion eventually will mean a few more jobs in the area as they hospital will need additional staff for patient care.
