Ky. League of Cities to release documents

July 02, 2009 @ 09:28 PM

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — The nonprofit Kentucky League of Cities has announced it will once again release documents to a newspaper, one day after the state said it will audit the group.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reports the league made its announcement Thursday in a news release in which it also announced it would welcome state auditor Crit Luallen.

Luallen told the newspaper her decision to audit the league had been partly based on its decision to stop releasing documents to the paper. But she said her office plans to proceed with the audit.

The Kentucky League of Cities provides lobbying, insurance and other services to 382 member cities. Earlier this week, it declared it isn’t a public agency and closed its records. The newspaper had used such records to do stories on the league’s salaries and expenses.
