Police patrols increased over holiday weekend
HUNTINGTON — As area residents prepare for another patriotic holiday, West Virginia State Police are gearing up for increased patrols.
More troopers will be on the state’s highways during the Fourth of July holiday in an effort to help keep holiday travelers safe. West Virginia State Police said the summer season brings with it an increase in traffic and construction projects, and Independence Day is the second deadliest day of the year on America’s roadways.
From Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, police will focus on strict enforcement in areas such as DUI, reckless driving, speeding, failure to buckle up and child restraint violations.
Motorists may also help law enforcement by reporting reckless drivers and stranded motorists by dialing *SP (*77) on any cell phone in West Virginia.
