Festival of Nations at Greenbo Lake State Park
GREENUP, Ky. — The International Folklanders will present their 41st annual "Festival of Nations" July 18, at Greenbo Lake State Park Amphitheater, Greenup, Ky.
The event will begin at 8 p.m.
This years theme is "America's Folkloric Dance Legacy" and will feature dances from the 17th and 18th centuries with authentic music and costumes. It will take the audience through the historical background of traditional dance in America beginning with George Washington and Mary Jefferson and onto the large scale of immigration from Europe which brought English, Scottish, Irish and German settlers. A narrator will explain each scene, which will include an English Mummers play and Sword dance, a Maypole dance, dancers who represent Scotland, Ireland, Germany and a scene with President Lincoln and a presentation of Civil War dances.
The festival will end with dances of the early pioneers who settled the west and a finale which will take you back through the periods of time which were represented.
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Admission is $3 per person.
