Man gets 60 years in prison for rape of 3 family members
IRONTON _ A Lawrence County man was sentenced to 60 years in prison Monday for the rape of his three nieces placed in his custody after the girls father was charged with abusing the oldest of three daughters more than two decades ago.
Donald Copley, 69, of Crown City, Ohio, was scheduled to go to trial Monday on 51 counts of rape of the three sisters starting more than 20 years ago. Copley, a retired maintenance employee with the Cabell County school system, ended up pleading guilty to 15 counts of rape in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.
Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney-Elect Brigham Anderson recommended a 60-year prison sentence in the case. After hearing from the three victims, Judge Charles "Chuck" Cooper agreed to the recommendation.
