Herald-Dispatch file photo This 1926 photo shows the original Douglass High School, the first section of which was built in 1891 at the corner of 8th Avenue and what is now Hal Greer Boulevard. When a new high school building was constructed at 10th Avenue and Bruce Street in 1924, the original structure became Barnett Elementary School. The building was torn down in 1994 after standing vacant for several years. The insets show Principal J.M. Washington and teacher Anna Johnson.
