Brief storm downs trees
HUNTINGTON -- A small but strong storm quickly blew through Huntington just after 6:30 p.m. Friday, packing enough force to bring a large tree down onto a house.
It wasn't immediately known if the house on 15th Street near Charleston Avenue was occupied or vacant, but large branches and foliage covered the front porch.
Cabell County 911 dispatchers said that was the worst of the reports they received. But there were about a dozen other calls about branches down on roadways, including two different stretches of Memorial Boulevard, the 1200 block of 5th Avenue and near the intersection of 11th Street and 11th Avenue.
Most of the branches were quickly cleared, and traffic was not impacted.
The long-term forecast from the National Weather Service in Charleston shows a chance of rain and storms through Tuesday. Saturday's forecast is calling for a slight chance of storms after 11 a.m., with highs near 90.
