Man arrested in purse snatching try

Aug. 22, 2013 @ 02:04 PM

HUNTINGTON — A Kentucky man was arrested and arraigned Thursday on charges related to a violent, attempted purse snatching from earlier in the week, according to officials in Cabell County Magistrate Court.

Ronall Ross, 43, of Wurtland, Ky., was arraigned Thursday afternoon before Magistrate Ron Baumgardner on charges of malicious wounding, second-degree robbery and leaving the scene of an accident with injury. Bond was set at $55,000.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Tuesday. Investigators believe a man approached a woman in her 50s as she exited a retail store in the 3300 block of U.S. 60. The assailant tried to steal her pocket book from a shopping cart, according to Cabell County Sheriff Tom McComas.

The woman resisted and chased the man back to his vehicle. He then dragged the woman with his vehicle as he drove away, ultimately striking her with the vehicle before fleeing the scene, McComas said. She was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators identified Ross as being involved due to his ownership of a vehicle’s license plate, which already had been logged into a department license plate recognition system.

Ross faces two counts each of felony malicious wounding and misdemeanor leaving the scene, in addition to a single count of second-degree robbery, according to court officials. He was hospitalized due to injuries suffered unrelated to the incident.
