'Three Media, Three States' exhibit opens at Renaissance

HUNTINGTON -- Works of art from a variety of media lined the walls of the newly renovated Renaissance Art Gallery on Sunday.
The artist-run gallery hosted an opening reception for an exhibit titled "Three Media, Three States." The exhibit, which runs through Oct. 16, welcomes artists Laura Moul of Milton, Linda Harbison of Flatwoods, Ky., and Pati Payne of Ironton to the gallery.
Moul has been creating award-winning photographic landscapes and scenic images for the past 20 years. Harbison began exhibiting watercolors, acrylics and stone carvings about 10 years ago. Payne, meanwhile, has been an active painter in the Tri-State for 40 years.
The exhibition introduces the artists to other gallery members as well as the general public and gives them a platform to showcase their talents, said Susan Tschantz, who helped organize the exhibit. Maul, Harbison and Payne were inducted into the gallery by its 10 other artists earlier this year and given three months to coordinate the exhibit.
"Each artist submits five pieces of their work, and we judge them on their uniqueness and presentation," Tschantz said. "The only requirement is that they have their own unique point of view in their works."
The gallery is located at 900 8th St., Suite 20, on the first floor of the former Huntington High School. Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Studio hours are 10 a.m. to noon Monday, 1 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
