Speaker to discuss Affordable Care Act

Financial $tability Partnership of the River Cities will feature guest speaker Renate Pore at a coalition meeting planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 820 Madison Ave.

She will discuss the Affordable Care Act and the role of local agencies in the enrollment process. She will also speak about an upcoming Affordable Care Act training, which is planned for Sept. 20 at the Cabell-Huntington Health Department.

Pore has more than 30 years of experience in health policy. She has worked as a planner in the West Virginia Bureau for Public Health, administered a rural health clinic, headed up Governor Caperton's Health Care Planning Commission and served as director of the Governor's Cabinet on Children and Families. Since 2003, she has been a consultant working on a variety of health, child health, oral health and health reform policy issues. She has a Ph.D. in history from West Virginia University and an M.P.H. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Pore, a Charleston resident, currently divides her time as health policy director for the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy and West Virginians for Affordable Health Care.
