Some Toledo traffic lanes reopen after sinkhole

Jul. 05, 2013 @ 03:30 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio — Some traffic lanes on a Toledo road have been reopened after a sinkhole caused the pavement to collapse earlier this week.

The northbound lanes on Detroit Avenue were reopened Friday after repair crews worked through the Fourth of July holiday.

A spokeswoman for a northwest Ohio city says the collapse of brick sewers beneath a road caused the approximately 10-foot-deep sinkhole that swallowed a moving car Wednesday.  The 60-year-old driver was briefly trapped but climbed out using a ladder with help from a firefighter.

The station reports that crews continue to work on repairs to the combined sewer and six-inch water line. Crews are expected to finish these repairs early next week. The pavement restoration is scheduled to be completed next week.
