Council to elect new chair, vice chair
HUNTINGTON -- Huntington City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at City Hall to elect its chair and vice chair for 2013.
Mark Bates has served as chairman for the past two years. If Bates is re-elected, he said he will announce the roster of committee appointments, including who will chair the pivotal Finance and Economic Development committees.
Steve Williams served as chairman of the Finance Committee for four years before he was elected as mayor, and former Councilman Jim Insco was chairman of the Economic Development Committee for several years. The Economic Development Committee is responsible for proposing the annual Community Development Block Grant budget for the council's approval.
Bates said Mayor Steve Williams also will attend the meeting and is expected to go over some minor changes to the structure of council meetings.
