Group to present 'Dead Serious'
HUNTINGTON -- An Ohio theatrical group composed of high school students from the Cincinnati, Ohio, area, will be in Huntington in January to perform a show about the serious issues facing teenagers.
"Dead Serious...About Life" was written by the group called Mishpachah Inc. and deals with the issues that teenagers face, including abortion, alcohol, drugs, religion, sex and suicide.
The show will be performed at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, at Spring Valley High School. Tickets are $8 in advance or $9 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.mish-inc.com through Thursday, Jan. 10.
The 2012-2013 group includes 36 students from 20 school districts and 24 churches. "Dead Serious ... About Life" has been performed nationwide since it was written in 1989.
The group cites statistics that say a teenager attempts suicide every 38 seconds; a child is born to a teen mother every 60 seconds; 15,006 teens try drugs for the first time every 24 hours; and one in five has tried a prescription medication to get high.
