Repeat felon gets more time behind bars
HUNTINGTON -- A repeat criminal could serve up to 10 years in prison on a recent felony conviction.
Cabell Circuit Judge Paul T. Farrell ordered Brent Kevin Adams Jr. to serve a 1- to 10-year prison sentence and pay $2,500 in restitution.
Adams, 33, of the 3200 block of McCoy Road in Huntington had pleaded guilty to grand larceny. A November 2011 indictment initially charged Adams with transferring stolen property, burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy.
The sentence marked Adams' fifth felony conviction. He also has 19 misdemeanor convictions, according to court officials.
Farrell and fellow Cabell Circuit Judge Alfred Ferguson also issued punishments in the following separate criminal cases.
Prison in conspiracy case
Ferguson ordered Tad Gregory Johnson to a 1- to 5-year prison sentence.
Johnson, 20, of the 600 block of 9th Avenue in Huntington had pleaded guilty to conspiracy. A March 2012 indictment initially charged Johnson with possessing a controlled substance with intent to deliver, conspiracy and fleeing from an officer.
Man sentenced to four years on firearms charge
Ferguson ordered David Matthew Little to a 4-year prison sentence. He ordered that be served after a prison sentence from Kanawha County.
Little, 28, of the first block of 31st Street in Nitro, W.Va., had pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The September 2012 indictment initially charged Little with being a felon in possession of a firearm, fleeing from an officer while under the influence, malicious assault on a police officer and two counts of child neglect.
Domestic battery gets prison
Ferguson ordered Roger Lee Gravely Sr. to a 1- to 5-year prison sentence.
Gravely, 48, had entered a Kennedy plea to third-offense domestic battery. He agreed to enter the plea without a grand jury indictment. Such a plea allows for the defendant's conviction without admitting guilt or explaining participation in the crime.
Prison sentence ordered
in felony attempt
Farrell ordered James David Hindman to a 1- to 3-year prison sentence.
Hindman, 28, of the 1300 block of 10 Mile Road in Ranger, W.Va., had pleaded guilty to attempt to commit a felony. A March 2012 indictment initially charged Hindman with attempt to commit a felony and conspiracy.
The case concerned copper stolen from American Electric Power.
Drug case nets home confinement
Farrell ordered Christina L. Perkins to a 2- to 30-year home confinement sentence with three years of probation and a $1,000 fine.
Perkins, 40, of the 3200 block of Hughes Street in Huntington had pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. She agreed to enter the plea without a grand jury indictment.
Charleston man gets 1 to 5 years in prison
Ferguson ordered Corey Brian Armstead to a 1- to 5-year prison sentence.
Armstead, 26, of the 2000 block of Quarrier Street in Charleston had pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. A May 2012 indictment initially charged Armstead with two counts of the drug charge and a single count of conspiracy.
Woman sentenced for embezzlement
Vickie Lynn Pertee received a 1- to 10-year prison sentence from Senior Status Judge Robert Chaffin, who presided over Pertee's case due to Ferguson's recusal.
Pertee, 45, of the 5900 block of East Pea Ridge Road in Huntington had pleaded guilty to embezzlement. A November 2011 indictment initially charged Pertee with 12 counts forgery and a single count of embezzlement.
Failure to appear gets additional prison time
Ferguson ordered Kimberly Deel to a 1- to 5-year prison sentence. He ordered that be served after Deel completes a 10-year sentence for first-degree robbery.
Deel, 23, of the 4400 block of Ohio River Road in Huntington had pleaded guilty to failure to appear. It was the sole count of Deel's September 2012 indictment.
