Count of homeless people planned
ASHLAND -- A street count of homeless people in Boyd, Greenup, Carter, Elliott and Lawrence counties in Kentucky is planned for Wednesday, Jan. 30.
Agencies from across the FIVCO area development district are participating in the 2013 K-Count coordinated by the Kentucky Housing Corporation, the state housing finance agency and the Kentucky Interagency Council on Homelessness.
A similar count in the Huntington and Charleston areas is set for Jan. 27.
During the 2011 count, 109 homeless individuals were counted in the five-county area in northeastern Kentucky.
An accurate count is needed to ensure the agencies which serve the homeless in the district receive appropriate funding from federal and state sources.
Agencies participating in K-Count include Safe Harbor of Northeast Kentucky, CAReS, the city of Ashland, Pathways, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Shelter of Home, Community Kitchen and the Neighborhood and Helping Hands of Greenup County, among others.
Anyone seeking additional information can call Safe Harbor at (606) 329-9304.
