MU Jazz Fest showcases talent
HUNTINGTON -- There was rhythm in the air Thursday night during the opening of the 44th annual Marshall University Jazz Festival at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.
The weekend event kicked off with an opening performance by The Patriot jazz ensemble from Parkersburg High School, which earned the spot of this year's honor ensemble through a competitive audition process.
Headlining this year's show will be The Airmen of Note, which is considered to be the premier jazz ensemble of the U.S. Air Force. The Thundering Herd All-Star Big Band will open that show, which begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center.
Before Saturday's big performance, the Marshall University Alumni Big Band and the Marshall University 12.0, along with guest artists, will put on a show at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, also at the center.
Tickets to each performance are free, but they are required and can be picked up prior to each night's performance at the Joan C. Edwards box office at the performing arts center.
