First two students graduate from MCTC Transportation program
HUNTINGTON -- The Transportation program at Mountwest Community & Technical College marked the graduation of its first two students, Daniel Francisco and Michael Shelley, in the fall of 2012. Both graduates are now CSX employees, and each graduated with an A.A.S. degree in transportation technology: railway option.
Program Coordinator Kristy Wood said that the feedback from students about the program has been positive and that she fully expects the program to continue to grow as more people find out about it.
Other associate degrees in the transportation technology program include management technology, intelligent transportation systems and occupational specialty with options in aviation, maritime and roadway. These programs became available to Mountwest students in fall 2011.
Currently students from more than 10 states participate. With the degree being offered online, one student completed his coursework while deployed in Afghanistan last semester, the press release said.
