Feb. 18, 2013 @ 12:15 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell-Huntington-Wayne Continuum of Care (CHWCoC) will host its fifth-annual Project Homeless Connect (PHC) event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena Conference Center.

They are looking for a few more volunteers to help for the day. If you would like to volunteer for the day, call 304-523-2764, ext. 102.

The Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless serves as lead agency for the CHWCoC, a group of about 30 organizations in the region that deal with homelessness in some way. For more information, call 304-523-2764.

About 40 organizations will set up tables at Project Connect to make those at-risk of or currently experiencing homelessness aware of available services that can help them return to self-sufficiency. PHC is a national model for outreach and engaging those experiencing homelessness who may not otherwise seek services.

The event will include a hot meal provided by donors and the Huntington City Mission, entertainment, a press conference with Mayor Steve Williams and multiple giveaways for the homeless including coats, blankets, socks, gloves, hygiene products and more. Representatives from existing programs will set up tables, and special services such as haircuts, kids fingerprinting kits and basic healthcare assessments will be offered.
