Local man arrested in two-state chase
GALLIPOLIS, Ohio -- A two-state police chase ended with a Huntington man's arrest late Thursday in Gallipolis, Ohio.
The chase started at 9:38 p.m. in Henderson, W.Va. The pursued driver crossed into Ohio, crashed into a Gallipolis city police cruiser and continued until he decided to surrender, according to a Facebook post by the Gallipolis Police Department.
The post identified the suspect as Jonathon E. Beaver, 31, of Huntington. He had an active, Mason County warrant on charges of operating a clandestine drug lab.
An officer tried to end the pursuit with the deployment of stop sticks. That mechanism flattened the driver's tire, but he continued before eventually crashing into the police cruiser at 3rd Avenue and Vine Street. The cruiser received front-end damage. The driver surrendered moments later near City Park, the post states.
Beaver was charged with felony fleeing and eluding, along with felonious assault on a police officer, the post states.
The Mason County Sheriff's Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Gallia County Sheriff's Office all provided assistance.
