SUPPORT OUR SENIORS DAY: Seniors who reside at West Virginia long-term care facilities were recognized at the state Culture Center on Jan. 27.

The event, designed to bring awareness about the needs of the elderly, included a photo exhibit telling the stories of those who reside in long-term care facilities. It also honored long-term care residents with Remember Me awards. The five honorees include: Theda Burgess, resident at Mapleshire Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown; Robert Martin, recognized posthumously, was a resident at Golden LivingCenter in Morgantown; Stanley Sedmock Jr., resident at Cortland Acres in Thomas; Charlie Thom Jr., resident at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center in Charleston; and Iva Yeager, resident at Glenville Care and Rehabilitation Center in Glenville.

It was sponsored by the West Virginia Health Care Association, the trade association representing long term care facilities throughout the state.

ENVIRONMENT DAY (“E-DAY”): The West Virginia Environmental Council had its 22nd annual E-Day at the Capitol on Wednesday.

The event included more than 20 environmental organizations and sustainable businesses offering exhibits. One of the major issues the day focused on was drilling in the Marcellus Shale.

CORRECTIONS DAY: Monday, Feb. 14, will be Corrections Day at the Legislature, recognizing state corrections, juvenile services and regional jail employees.

Employees from these facilities will spend the day at the Capitol to meet legislators, discuss concerns and see the legislative process in action.
