Variety of health-related classes, programs, screenings offered

HUNTINGTON -- A number of health-conscious classes, programs and screenings are scheduled in the Tri-State this week. Some of the activities offered in the area:

Sisters of Hope, 5:30 p.m., Monday, March 15, at Cabell Huntington Hospital, 1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington. A support group for women with breast cancer. Dr. Shawn McKinney serves as the medical advisor. Refreshments are served. For more information, call 304-526-2443.

Beginners Seniors in Motion, 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 16, in the Wellness Center at St. Mary's Medical Center's Regional Heart Institute, 2900 1st Ave., Huntington. Class consists of balance exercises and low-impact aerobics. Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and has a $1 fee to participate. For more information, call 304-399-7444.

Suicide Survivors Support Group, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, in the Regional Heart Institute at St. Mary's Medical Center, 2900 1st Ave., Huntington. This meeting is free, confidential and open to those who have lost a loved one to suicide. For details, call 304-526-6014.

"Open Door" to Better Living, 9 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, March 16, at Westmoreland Senior Center, 3609 Hughes St., Huntington. Health screenings by Valley Health Systems and Wayne County Health Department. Program includes blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol screenings and professional advice. King's Daughters Medical Center offers Health Screening, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, at the Ashland Senior Center, 324 15th St., Ashland. Health screening includes total cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and blood oxygen testing. Heart, stroke, colon cancer and nutrition education will also be provided. Fasting is not required.
