Ohio River flood warnings canceled
HUNTINGTON -- Flood warnings for the Ohio River in Ashland and Huntington were lifted Monday, as the rivers crested slightly below flood stage, according to reports from the National Weather Service in Charleston.
At 10 p.m. Monday, a flood warning remained in effect for Point Pleasant, where the Ohio River was three and a half feet over the 40-foot flood stage. It is expected to recede under flood stage by Wednesday morning.
In Huntington, the river was expected to crest at 47.9 feet overnight into Tuesday, then recede throughout the week. Flood stage is 48 feet.
The same is forecasted for Ashland, where the river crested at 51.34 feet, about a half a foot below flood stage, on Monday afternoon.
Motorists will still observe areas of high water and possibly some wet roads from streams and creeks that are still running high. Cabell County 911 reported Monday some trouble spots near Milton, including Balls Gap Road, East Mud River Road, Two Mile Creek Road, West Mud River Road, Newmans Branch Road and Dry Creek.
Other Cabell County concerns include Nine Mile Creek Road near W.Va. 2, Mud River Road near Wild Cat Hollow near Barboursville, Big Cabell Creek in Ona, Goose Creek Road in Barboursville, Wolfpen Road and Charleys Creek Road in Culloden.
Lawrence County 911 reported problems near Porter Gap (County Road 22) in Ironton, Athalia Road (County Road 42) in Athalia, Old Ohio 7 (County Road 42) in Rome Township and Symmes Creek Road in Chesapeake.
The high waters also have closed some roads in Ohio, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation's District 9 office in Chillicothe. That included Ohio 650 at U.S. 52 and Hanging Rock in Lawrence County; Ohio 220 at County Road 51 (River Road), south of Waverly, in Pike County; Ohio 73 at the exit/entrance ramps to U.S. 52 in Scioto County; Ohio 239 at West Portsmouth in Scioto County; and the Second Street Bridge at the western corporation limit of Portsmouth.

Huntington's weather forecast is calling for dry conditions through Saturday. A slight chance of showers could pass through Saturday night and into Sunday.
