VITA program offering Tacos and Taxes day
HUNTINGTON -- The United Way's IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) will have its Tacos and Taxes day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, March 30, at the Virginia Avenue Goodwill.
Food will be provided by Qdoba of Barboursville, and will arrive by 10:30 a.m. As a special thank you, all MyFreeTaxes.com/Huntington users will be entered into a drawing for an iPod Nano.
"'Tacos and Taxes' day is a day for those eligible for the VITA program and have yet to file their tax return to get their taxes prepared for free and enjoy a free lunch," said Heather Marrs, director of finance of Goodwill Industries and VITA volunteer since 2009. "Anyone who comes in to file their taxes that day or has previously filed using MyFreeTaxes.com/Huntington is welcome to enjoy the free tacos."
So far this year, VITA volunteers have worked more than 400 hours of volunteer time to save Tri-State residents nearly $500,000 in tax preparation fees, according to a press release.
These IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals (those making less than $51,000).
There is still time to get your taxes done this season. For more information, contact Ed Davis, Financial Stability Partnership of the River Cities coordinator, at 304-523-8929, extension 6 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
