Free event focuses on resources for seizure disorders set for April 5

HUNTINGTON -- A free event to be presented Friday, April 5, by the Epilepsy and Seizure Center at Cabell Huntington Hospital and the Epilepsy Foundation will provide an in-depth look at resources available for people affected by seizure disorders. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Harless Auditorium on the campus of Cabell Huntington Hospital.

Local experts in the field of epilepsy and seizure disorders will be available throughout the event to present information, answer questions about diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy and teach parents how to navigate the educational process for children with special needs.

Scheduled presentations include:

9 a.m., Dr. Sona Shah, offering an overview of epilepsy, common ways to diagnose and treat seizures, and new treatment options.

10 a.m., Dr. Mitzi Payne, providing information about the challenges that may arise in the treatment process, ways to optimize care and other issues individuals and parents may face.

11 a.m., representatives from the West Virginia Parent Training and Information Center, presenting details on navigating the education system for children with special needs, including IEPs, the Section 504 process and ways to advocate effectively for your child.
