BURNAUGH, Ky. _ A Catlettsburg, Ky., area woman was killed in a traffic accident on U.S. 23 in the Burnaugh area, according to Boyd County Sheriff Terry Keelin.
The victim was identified as Carrie F. Kirk, 54.
She had stopped at the Burnaugh BP in the 28000 block of U.S. 23 when she pulled out of the parking lot to cross the median of the divided, four-lane highway when she was hit by a vehicle heading northbound, Keelin said.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, Bill M. Thompson, 62, of Prestonsburg, Ky., was admitted to King’s Daughters Medical Center with undisclosed injuries, according to a report from the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department.
Alcohol, drugs or speed were not a factor in the crash, Keelin said. Kirk was pronounced dead at the scene. “She obviously didn’t see him,” he said. “She was headed southbound.”
Kirk was driving a while, 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier, while Thompson was driving a white 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier.
Thompson’s vehicle struck Kirk’s vehicle at the driver’s side door, Keelin said.
Kirk and Thompson were the only occupants of their vehicles, according to the report. Both were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.
Sheriff’s Deputy Joel Workman is the investigating officer.
