Proposal: Tougher graffiti penalties
CHARLESTON — State lawmakers from Cabell County are attempting to bolster property crime laws that would punish those who deface property with graffiti more severely.
Delegate Kevin Craig and Sen. Evan Jenkins, both Cabell County Democrats, are the lead sponsors of legislation in their respective chambers that adds crimes against property involving graffiti into the state code and imposes a wide range of penalties for those convicted under the law.
Cabell's delegation has introduced legislation in previous years to deal with graffiti, but the bills introduced this year (HB 4052 and SB 408) are the most comprehensive versions because they rely on input from the Huntington Police Department, Cabell County Prosecutor's Office, local attorneys and downtown property owners, Craig said.
