Police: Husband fatally shot wife, daughter, self
INDEPENDENCE, Ky. (AP) — Police said Thursday that autopsy reports and other evidence show that a northern Kentucky man fatally shot his wife and daughter and then killed himself at their home earlier this week.
Independence police said gasoline was used to ignite the fire that authorities found when they responded to a 911 call.
In a release, police said they believe 43-year-old Seaward Padilla “did in fact” shoot 45-year-old Lori Padilla and 22-year-old Jessica Padilla on Tuesday night. All three died of gunshot wounds. Jessica’s 2-year-old daughter, Jaycee, was found unharmed outside.
Authorities said a 911 call came from the Padilla residence that night. A male caller reported a fire in the basement before hanging up.
Emergency officials came under gunfire as they arrived at the family’s two-story brick home.
Police later found rounds that hit a fire truck and a house across the street. No responders were injured.
On Thursday, police issued the news release and declined further comment.
