Celebrate children at Ritter Park event

Jun. 15, 2014 @ 09:15 AM

HUNTINGTON — An opportunity for free family fund takes place today at Ritter Park in Huntington.

United Way of the River Cities' Success By 6 initiative is hosting the free annual Celebrate Children's Day event from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at Ritter Park behind the fountain.

Local organizations will provide activities for young children and resources for parents and caregivers about the "12 Tips for Raising a Healthy Child."

"This is a fun event for the entire family," said Lena Burdette, Community Initiatives coordinator, in a news release. "This event is always a good way for parents and caregivers to receive valuable information while the children have fun with games and activities. This year, it falls on Father's Day, so there will be a lot of activities centered on homemade gifts for dads."

Some exhibitors include child care centers, child passenger safety and local organizations that serve children and families. The event will also include door prizes and other giveaways, such as children's books and educational toys.
