Gallery: Lincoln coffin replica parade
HUNTINGTON — A replica of President Abraham Lincoln took a ride downtown Huntington on Saturday before being placed on display at the Cabell County Public Library.
The coffin is one of five replicas made 10 years ago by the Batesville Casket Co. of Indiana. The coffin was built using an 1865 photograph of the one in which President Lincoln is shown lying in state. Four of the five coffin replicas travel the country for display at funeral homes, while the fifth remains as part of the permanent collection at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill.
There was a small parade of Civil War re-enactors who took the coffin to the library on Saturday.
The coffin will be on display at the main branch of the Cabell County Public Library from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. through Wednesday, May 22; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 23, and Friday, May 24; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 25.
The exhibit is sponsored by the Henson & Kitchen Family Funeral Home of Huntington. For more information, call the funeral home at 304-736-8986 or the library at 304-528-5739.
